The hip hop community is mourning the loss of the up-and-coming Toronto rapper Houdini today. The celebrated lyricist was killed on May 26 following a daytime shooting in the city's Entertainment District. News of the musician's death sent shockwaves through social media, with many reaching out to pay tribute.
Houdini, whose real name was Dimarjio Antonio Jenkins, died from his injuries after he and two other people were shot on Tuesday.
“This was very brazen,” Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders said, according to CP24.
Toronto police responded reports of gunfire in the area of King Street and Blue Jays Way after 4 p.m.
Police confirmed that a 15-year-old boy and 27-year-old woman were injured from the shooting.
Since the news broke, many celebrities have paid tribute to Houdini's tragic death online.
Canadian Rapper Tory Lanez took to Instagram yesterday to share his heartbreak over the tragedy.
The rapper shared several photos and a video of himself hanging out with Houdini. In the pictures, the pair can be seen smiling and living large as they hang out on an unknown street.
"I’m trying, and I can’t fight the tears from falling. I can’t even find the words for a speech right now," Lanez added.
"Rocked WIT YOUNGBULL VIBE AS A PERSON RIP! PRAYERS TO HIS SIDE!" wrote Meek Mill in his post.

Fans of the rapper also took to Twitter on Tuesday to share their reactions to his death.
“Just got the news that Toronto rapper Houdini got killed today. Horrible news, he was just starting to really blow-up too. My condolences to his family and supporters” wrote one user.
“Houdini dying hit me harder than any other rapper death,” added another.
Houdini is not the only Toronto rapper who has been killed recently.
Bvlly, another popular rapper, was shot and killed on Christmas Eve back in 2019.
