It finally happened! The Toronto Raptors have announced the release date for their new City Edition jerseys, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The jersey, which was officially revealed on Friday, November 22, 2019, were modelled by Fred VanVleet in a post on the team’s Twitter page. It was announced that the new Raptors gear would become available on November 27, 2019, so mark the date on your calendar and prepare your bank accounts, people, because it is about to go down.
The Raptors were a little late on the release of their version, especially considering that most teams released their 2019-2020 City Edition merch on Wednesday.
It’s unclear why Toronto decided to wait, but the secret didn't stay hidden very long as someone took matters into their own hands and leaked it earlier this week.
An unconfirmed leak of the jersey took the internet by storm on Wednesday. The City Edition jersey initially sparked a mixed reaction from fans online, with some even going as far as to straight-up trash it.
However, it appears as though fans are starting to warm up to the new look now that it’s official.
“Stop coming out with new jerseys. I have kids to feed,” wrote one excited fan.
“Look like the best ones yet,” added another.
The new Raptors design is an obvious nod to their global ambassador Drake, while at the same time a tribute to their original 1995 design.

@Raptors @FredVanVleet They beautiful 😍😍— Aldo Chavez (@Aldo Chavez)1574421002.0
@Raptors @FredVanVleet Finally a new Jersey with Toronto on it!! Been a while 🔥🔥🔥— tim (@tim)1574428125.0
It’s a unique combination. The black jersey with gold lettering is unlike the other uniforms that the players have sported in the past.
The jersey is also the first one to feature the words “Toronto” front and centre on it, which may be in reaction to the city’s growing popularity in pop culture.
At the moment, details about the new jersey are pretty sparse, it’s unclear how much they’ll cost, but fans will be able to get their hands on one soon enough.
