It is going to be another tricky day for Toronto transit. Toronto's UP Express announced on Friday, February 14, 2020, that it had suspended service due to signal issues. The airport rail link, which runs between Union Station and Toronto Pearson International Airport, is typically used to help travellers get to and from the airport. However, it is sometimes used for regular travel.
Metrolinx spokesperson Nitish Bissonauth told CP24 that GO Transit's Kitchener line was also being affected by the signal issue. Delays of "up to 30 minutes" are currently plaguing the line. It is uncertain when regular service will resume at this point.
"Crews are working as fast as we can. It was a bitter cold morning, and we do understand that. Their job is even more challenging," he told the news outlet. "We are still not too sure what the cause is at this point in time."
UP Express took to Twitter on Friday morning to announce the suspension.
"Train service is currently suspended due to an ongoing signal problem. Guest travelling to and from Pearson Airport and Union Station will have access to a GO shuttle bus. Weston and Bloor guest should make their way to the nearest TTC subway," read a statement from UP Express.

Metrolinx provided an update two hours later, stating that they were still working to fix the issue.
"Train service is still suspended due to an ongoing signal problem. Shuttle bus service is running to/from Pearson Airport - terminal 1 and Union on Station St, outside the Goodlife Fitness. Weston and Bloor guest should make their way to the nearest TTC subway," the company informed.

If you are were planning on taking the UP Express this morning, the company confirms that shuttle buses are running every 15 to 20 minutes from Union to Pearson airport.
UP Express's service suspension comes at a trying time for travellers.
VIA Rail announced on Thursday evening that it would be cancelling all train services. The move, which will be in effect until further notice, comes in reaction to Wet’suwet’en solidarity blockades.
