Toronto's Distillery Hand Sanitizer Is Being Made Instead Of Booze

With the rise in cases of COVID-19, people across the province are hitting the stores to stock up on all the essentials. The rush has led to some shortages, especially in hand sanitizer. One Toronto distillery has come up with a unique solution to the deficit. Instead of using their alcohol in booze, the company will be producing bottles of hand sanitizer to help meet the demand. The Toronto distillery's hand sanitizer will be available this week, even to those who can't afford it.

The Spirit of York Distillery Co., located in the historic Distillery District, has answered Toronto's call for more sanitizer.

The company, which is usually known for its grain-to-glass vodka and gin, will now be using its alcohol in a whole new way.

Yesterday, Spirit of York announced on Twitter that it will be using its amenities to help Toronto during a time where sanitizer is in high demand.

"To support our community in this time of need, Spirit of York Distillery Co. will be dedicating its operation to the production of hand sanitizer that meets WHO standards," the post read.

Later, the company revealed that the sanitizer will be available in-house starting March 19, 2020.

Each bottle will cost only $2.95. The sanitizer will be free for anyone 65 or older and for those who can't afford it.

There is a limit of two bottles per customer, and all proceeds are going to local food banks in the community.

With empty shelves being reported across the GTA, this is exactly the "spirit" that we need during this time.

Yesterday, Justin Trudeau responded to a tweet about panic buying by urging Canadians to "take care of each other in this time of need" and to "buy only what you need."

You can stop by the Spirit of York Distillery to pick up some sanitizer and support the local community during the outbreak.
