A Breathtaking Floating Lantern Festival Is Happening Near Toronto This Weekend

You'll get some serious Disney vibes!

If you think you've seen all Toronto has to offer - think again! This weekend, Mississauga will be transformed into a twinkling wonderland as the sun begins to set. This fairytale event involves glowing lanterns lighting up the waterfront, and its a spectacle you don't want to miss. Toronto's floating lantern festival will be the most beautiful sight you've experienced all summer!

The festival has been travelling across Canada and the US all summer, and now's your chance to see it near Toronto. The event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 10 at Port Credit Memorial Park, where you can watch thousands of bright lanterns drift across the river.

Not only can you watch lanterns, but you can also launch your own! Each ticket includes a personal lantern, commemorative drawstring bag, marker for decorating, and a wrist band. The event encourages guests to share messages of hope, love, dreams, and remembrances for a beautiful sense of unity.

The event runs from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and guests are asked to arrive at any time between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. There will be delicious food trucks on-site, as well as a unique vendor and craft section, which will be open for the entire event. Enjoy live music as you wander along the waterfront and decorate your lantern in preparation for its launch!

The launch will take place between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. after some magical lantern tales and group meditation. Send your flickering lantern off with thousands of others, and watch them all sail together across the twinkling lake. This is a beautiful time of reflection for guests as they enjoy the enchanting sight of the glowing waterfront.

As for the environmental impact, the festival has worked to create a sustainable event. The lanterns will be cleaned up by staff immediately after the event ends. All lanterns are eco-friendly, created with rice paper and wool, and will be re-purposed.

Guests are asked to bring reusable water bottles to avoid excess waste. There is also a free bike valet service available to encourage cycling to the event, as parking is limited.

Buy your ticket ASAP, as prices will rise the longer you wait! It's also a good idea to bring cash to the event for vendors and food trucks, as cards will not be accepted.

Cozy blankets and sweaters are always a good idea for extra warmth once the sun sets, and don't forget that bug spray! Come with friends, family, or even by yourself, and enjoy this magical twilight spectacle.
