Based on a report released by TTC,  the cost of public transportation may rise by January,2017. A 10-cent fare increase  may possibly come into effect to reduce the budget shortfalls in 2016. If this change does come about, this would be the sixth year in a row, TTC fare increases.

The increase would have a significant impact for everyday commuters, as the price per token would go up to $3.00 (vs $2.90) and a monthly adult Metro Pass could sky rocket to $146.26, from $141.50 - um that is a $4.75 increase.  A one time fare ride on the subway, bus or street car for adults would remain the same at $3.25. If this report comes into effect, the increased fare could bring the TTC about $27 million in profit.
