Say goodbye to winter!  Toronto can finally expect to feel the arrival of spring this morning. Environment Canada is forecasting a high of 10°C in Toronto for Thursday, but meteorologists recommend you take an umbrella with you before you head out to work this morning.  The city will likely see rain begin by the early afternoon, and by the evening, Environment Canada predicts a thunderstorm will take over the skies.

Additionally, the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) issued a weather warning this morning due to possible flooding conditions over the next 24 hours.  The mild temperatures throughout the city, in addition to the wet weather, are putting certain areas of Toronto at higher flood risk than others.

In an advisory issued yesterday, the TRCA explained, "Toronto and Region Conservation advises Environment Canada has forecasted 10-20mm of rainfall beginning Thursday around noon and tapering off early Friday morning. There is also a slight chance of thunderstorms during Thursday evening which could bring an additional 10-30mm of rainfall over a short duration."

#BTWeather with the warm shift this afternoon, the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority has put out a warning for potential flooding. Exercise caution when near large bodies of water and keep your pets away from slippery banks!

"In addition to the rain, temperatures are expected to remain above zero today until overnight Friday, resulting in additional runoff from melting snow. Many of TRCA’s rivers and streams have full ice cover. The rise in water levels from rainfall and snowmelt could result in a break-up of the ice."

The TRCA also warns of ice jams and localized flooding near culverts and bridge piers.  The weather authority reported, "All rivers within the GTA may experience higher flows and water levels, resulting in potential flooding and hazardous conditions."

"Ponding may occur in low-lying areas. The combination of slippery and unstable banks could create hazardous conditions close to any river, stream or other water body. All shorelines, rivers and streams within the GTA should be considered hazardous."

For Friday, meteorologists say there is a 40 percent chance of showers, but we can expect to feel a high of 7°C.  And just in time for the weekend, the clouds will finally part to allow the sun to shine bright upon the city for both Saturday and Sunday.
