Whitby's Massive Luxury Spa Resort Announces Official Opening In Summer 2019

After several delays, development of Whitby's highly-anticipated Nordic spa will finally commence.

Nordik Spa-Nature, the Quebec-based company behind the expansion, has announced that the luxury resort will be open as early as summer 2019, with construction beginning in 2018. Once completed, it will be the company's third location, alongside the flagship in Chelsea, Quebec and the second location (Thermëa) in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

According to company co-founder and chief executive Martin Paquette, the spa is already fully paid for, so Durham residents can rest assured that the spa is definitely on its way despite previous delays.

"We're not just a spa company anymore. We are a spa developer. We have a goal to open 10 spas over the next ten years," he said.

The Whitby facility is set for the former Cullen Gardens site, and its construction is expected to create as many as 200 new jobs for the area. It will be able to hold up to 700 visitors at a time.
