There's nothing that'll get you in the spirit of the season than a good old fashioned walk around a spooky, abandoned Alberta mine town.

First established at the start of the 1900s as a bustling mining community, Bankhead is now an empty ghost town ripe for exploring.

Like a setting from a Tomb Raider game, the town is full of decaying concrete buildings out in the mountains near Banff.

While it initially roared with life and workers, the town had emptied out in just 20 years after difficulties within the industry.

Visitors can walk along its rusting railroad tracks, unkempt streets, and rotting houses for a picture of life in a different era.
