Canadians Can Getaway Directly From Calgary To Rome With WestJet's New Non-Stop Flights
There's nothing like a summer getaway to Italy.
The Eternal City is waiting for you! WestJet flights to Rome from Calgary are starting in May 2020. Now even more Canadians can jet off to WestJet's first Italian destination for a perfect holiday filled with lots of pizza and gelato
It's never too early to start planning a summer vacation and if you're already looking for places to go, WestJet has a new option for you. The airline announced a new Calgary-Rome flight route that will take Canadians to the Italian city starting on May 2, 2020.
WestJet's fancy Dreamliner planes will fly the new route, offering Canadians a new kind of travelling experience with quieter cabins, bigger windows, better air quality and more.
"Whether they have Italian roots or are dreaming of a bucket list destination, western Canadians have never had convenient, non-stop access to the Eternal City," said Ed Sims, WestJet president and CEO, in a news release.
Flight service between Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino (FCO) in Rome will operate three times a week during peak season. It will be WestJet's first Italian destination.
The new Calgary-Rome route is designed to open up all of western Canada to Italy, not just people in Alberta. Flights across WestJet's North American network, including to and from Vancouver, Edmonton and Winnipeg, are timed to make connections convenient and easy.
On May 2, 2020, flights to Rome will leave Calgary at 6:00 p.m. local time once a week. Return flights from Rome will also depart once a week starting on May 3, 2020.
But on May 28, 2020, service will increase along the route. Flights from Calgary will then start to depart three times a week and flights from Rome will follow suit on May 29, 2020.
"We are extremely proud to welcome WestJet to Rome Fiumicino Airport as its new destination in Europe and first in Italy," said Fausto Palombelli, chief commercial officer of Aeroporti di Roma, in a news release.
Since the flights on the Calgary-Rome route are non-stop, passengers don't have to worry about layovers and timing.
"With travel via Dreamliner and an elapsed travel time as opposed to connecting through eastern hubs, this flight positions us as a preferable transatlantic option for a wonderful summer holiday in beautiful and historic Rome," said Sims.
Along with adding a new destination to its lineup, WestJet also announced it will be adding more than 300 Dreamliner .
Start planning your summer getaway to Italy now because it might just help you get through the winter.
