Calling all travel lovers! Here's some good news for you. The Air Canada summer schedule is here and even though it's reduced, you can still get lots of flights to domestic and international destinations.

Air Canada officially announced its summer schedule on May 22.

For this year, it's really reduced because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The airline is flying to 97 destinations during the season, which is down from 220 last year.

Internationally, Air Canada is operating from its major hubs here at home to destinations around the world.

That includes routes from Toronto to Frankfurt, LondonZurich, Tokyo and Tel Aviv, routes from Montreal to Frankfurt, London, Paris and Brussels along with routes from Vancouver to London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Seoul.

In June, service will expand even further to include flights between Montreal and Athens, Rome and Geneva along with ones between Toronto and Munich, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Rome and Athens.

There could be flights from Vancouver to Shanghai but that's subject to government approval.

You can also fly between Calgary and Frankfurt with this schedule.

"We are accordingly gradually opening for sale flights for the summer and beyond as we rebuild our network," said Lucie Guillemette, executive VP and chief commercial officer with Air Canada, in a news release.

Canada currently has a global travel advisory in place until further notice that warns against all non-essential travel outside of the country.

Air Canada has updated its flight schedule until the end of July which includes the resumption of service to destinations in the U.S., Caribbean, South America, Europe and the Pacific.

With the new schedule, the airline is flying to U.S. destinations again like New York, Washington, L.A., San Francisco, Boston and Chicago.

Last year there was service to 53 destinations south of the border.

Air Canada had suspended all flights to the U.S. until May 22 back in April.

If you want to travel this summer but don't want to leave the country, there are lots of options for you.

Domestic routes will increase to 58 in June which is up from 34 in May.

Even more will be added in August and September.

You also have time to decide. A new Air Canada policy allows people to change their flights that were booked on or before June 30 of this year without fees for original travel until June 30, 2021.

Countries around the world have started to ease travel restrictions and Greece, Italy and Iceland have all announced plans to welcome tourists this summer.
