You Can Be A Total Ice Queen At A Huge Frozen Palace Near Ottawa Until Next Weekend
It'll make you feel like royalty!
Just as we were all busy hoping winter might end soon, a magical carnival came and changed all of our minds. This 10-day event near Ottawa is set to kick off this weekend and will feature a giant ice palace that is sure to make you feel like the kings or queen you truly are. So, if you’re looking to escape the city for a little winter magic, then the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival is your ticket to a good time.
Located right across the border in New York, this amazing ice palace is just under three hours away from the Canadian capital, making it an ideal weekend road trip destination for you and your besties.
The 10-day event is jam-packed with all sorts of fun activities, competitions, live entertainment, and so much more.
But, without a doubt, the main attraction is the beautiful ice-sculpted palace.
This epic volunteer-built ice structure is a stunning sight in the daytime, but at night it gets even better.
You can watch in awe as the ice lights up in all different colours.
There will also be a spectacular fireworks display for you to enjoy this Saturday, Feb. 1.
Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?
There is no fee to enter this royal ice palace, which has been around since 1898, according to the carnival website.
“Of course, a Palace needs royal occupants, so ice thrones were placed inside these majestic residences. A king, queen and court were chosen to honour the Palace and reign over the Carnival," reads a blurb on the site.
"In the far past, kings and queens were famous invited guests such as movie stars or radio personalities but, since 1970, they have been selected to honour local residents who generously volunteer in the community.”
If you plan on attending, we suggest taking a look at the extensive schedule of events on the carnival’s website.
With things like a mini The Amazing Race-style competition, ice skating, movie screenings, Arctic BBQs, downhill skiing and more, there’s certainly no shortage of fun to be had.
And it’s not just this weekend, either. Each of the 10 days features all-day fun for you and the squad to revel in.
So, what are you waiting for? Gather the squad, gas up, and get on the road!
