Black Friday is one of the biggest spending events of the year in Canada, and almost everything you can imagine goes on sale. However, if you’ve been waiting until Black Friday or Cyber Monday to get great deals on flights or vacations, there could actually be a better option. Travel Tuesday in Canada is one of the best days of the year to book travel, and here’s what you need to know.

While Black Friday and Cyber Monday are widely considered to be the best shopping days of the year, some travel experts believe that there’s actually a better date to score the cheapest flights and vacations.

According to travel app Hopper, it’s Travel Tuesday - the Tuesday after American Thanksgiving - that has historically low ticket prices, even for Canadian travellers.

This year, Travel Tuesday will land on December 3, meaning the best time to shop for travel discounts will actually be after Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

According to Hopper, the sweet spot between U.S. Thanksgiving and Christmas is a popular time to book vacations for the following year, and the sales and deals can be huge!

The travel company has analyzed its pricing data from the past few years and has found that the Tuesday following Thanksgiving has consistently offered the biggest volume of deals that week.

In 2018 Hopper saw more flights discounted on Travel Tuesday than Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined.

This meant that American and Canadian travellers booked 80% more trips on this day compared to Black Friday, and 40% more than on Cyber Monday.

This year, Hopper is forecasting huge discounts on some specific destinations. These include Tokyo, Sydney, Beijing, Iceland, Costa Rica, Cape Town, and London, England.

In addition to airfare, Hopper is predicting major savings on hotels and will have their own exclusive hotel rates with savings ranging from $50 - $150 off.

While Travel Tuesday is shaping up to be a pretty crazy day of savings, travel-comparison site Skyscanner is predicting some pretty hefty discounts for Canadian travellers on Black Friday, too.

According to Skyscanner, top airlines such as Air Canada, WestJet, Air Transat and Porter offered flight discounts between 15% and 30% in 2018. Every year is different, but Canadians can usually expect to find great savings throughout late November and early December.

Air Canada has already launched its Black Friday Worldwide Seat Sale, and they’re offering discounted fares to Africa, Asia, Europe and even Australia.

Remember, flights are known to regularly fluctuate in price and sale-prices don’t stick around forever. If you find an awesome deal before Travel Tuesday, it’s probably worth booking.
