National Geographic recently published its annual feature "Best Trips list" for 2020. With 25 beautiful places on the list, it comes as no surprise that Arizona is one of them.
Creating a list of places to visit in the new year was no easy task.
A compilation of editors and explorers worked together to pick out the world's top bucket list destinations. The magazine also, "collaborated with the editorial teams of National Geographic Traveler’s 17 international editions and with our own globe-trotting experts," to decide on these must-see spots.
Listed as number 14 on the list, the Grand Canyon in Arizona made it and is one of the best trips to take when 2020 rolls around.
The national park is a deep gorge that spans 277 miles long and goes up to 18 miles wide. It took millions of years to form and honestly, no one really knows how old it is.
A 2012 study suggested that the Colorado River started carving out the canyon over 70 million years ago. But, before it was believed that this process began about six million years ago.
Despite these findings, this amazing natural wonder continues to instill awe in those who visit. With its extreme elevation changes, many areas of the park will experience different kinds of weather.

The best time to visit is between September and November when the weather is much cooler. During the winter, parts of the park are covered in snow.
