If you thought that Harry Potter magic could never happen outside of the movies, there is a hidden spot at a park in North Florida that might just surprise you. Nestled among over 1,500 acres of submerged lands, a 400-year-old oak tree named The Fairchild Oak continues to thrive. The wildest part, though, is that the tree looks eerily similar to the Whomping Willow, and you can actually hike to go see it.
Bulow Creek State Park in Ormond Beach is easily one of the most jaw-dropping protected areas in the Sunshine State because it actually has one of the last oak canopies in the south.
But if you are concerned that age is just a number, don’t be, this oak is a totally wild sight to see. With its large twisted branches and moss-covered bark, the Fairchild Oak looks like it comes straight out of Hogwarts.
You can walk to the oak by hiking the Skip Wahlin Nature Trail, which is a fairly short loop. Grab your bestie, your bae, or your whole crew and get going on a truly magical walk!
Since the trail curls around a gorgeous spring and coquina rock bluff, it is definitely one of the most ideal places to wander along and soak in Mother Earth’s most beautiful views.
Take a deep breath of fresh air, enjoy the greenery and head on up to the tree, possibly without even breaking a sweat.
For folks who are trying to do more than just stretch their legs, you can continue onto the Bulow Woods trail.
But be careful! This 6.8-mile trek is not for the faint of heart, and the park rangers recommend a full half-day to complete it.
The views, though, may actually be worth the work, because the trail winds through a sea of giant trees.
Just keep an eye on the time. The park is open from 8 a.m. to sunset every single day of the year.
The best part, though, is that park entry is absolutely free!
Whether you are a Harry Potter superfan or just a chill soul trying to vibe with the natural world, Bulow Creek State Park is an awesome place to go check out a truly incredible tree.
