Get your bucket list ready! Spring is right around the corner, and what better way to spend it than by lounging at one of Florida's many swimming holes? If you are on the hunt for one close to home, the crystal-clear natural pool at Madison Blue Springs State Park is just a short drive from Jacksonville.
If you're in North Florida or the Panhandle, load up for a road trip to this beautiful park in Lee. It's only an hour-and-a-half trip from Jacksonville and just over an hour from Tallahassee.
The spectacular spring is around 25 feet deep and sits along the Withlacoochee River. Visitors can float in inner tubes, swim, paddle, and more. The water stays about 72 degrees year-round, perfect for any season.
Scuba diving is also popular at Madison Blue Springs, with proper certification required before diving. The spring's cave system is made up of over 25,000 feet of passages to explore, with plenty of diverse underwater life.
The clear water is perfect for paddling. If you'd like to launch a kayak or canoe on the river, you'll need to bring your own equipment. Keep in mind that fishing is not permitted in swimming areas.
In 2015, Madison Blue Springs was named the best swimming hole in the country by USA Today. Florida also made the list that year with Three Sisters Springs at number nine.
