Georgians have a green thumb when it comes to plants and gardens. Maybe it's because most Georgia natives have been playing (and helping) in gardens since we were kids, but something about plants always seems to come naturally. While finding the best plant shops in Georgia may seem like an easy task, there's only a small few that deserve to be your favorite.
Garden*Hood is a tucked away nursery in east Atlanta that truly is one of the best places to pick up a few new plant babies. Located in the historic Grant Park area, Garden*Hood can be easily spotted by the lush plants stacked all over and the huge cacti out front. No matter your skill level for plants, green thumb and sore thumb, this place has something for you.
The owners take pride in their selection by housing some local as well as exotic plants that can, as stated in an Atlanta Magazine article, actually acclimate themselves to the Atlanta weather. Talk about getting used to your surroundings. Owner Scott McMahan goes the extra mile to sure his more foreign plants can survive the city's weather. "Many of these Asian specimens can adapt to Atlanta's climate," he told the magazine.
Even if you don't go to the nursery to shop (even though you should), this plant heaven is perfect for a peaceful stroll. Sometimes you just need to be in the same space of such tranquil living beings. And of course, if you must, a quick photo shoot never hurts.
If you're the gardening type, this is the perfect place to pick up a few seeds to start your herb or vegetable gardens as well. If you like to keep things simple, or just want to spruce up your room a bit, a small succulent or cactus is always a winner.
Plants are natural mood boosters, so if you want to be around a few (or maybe a lot) more plants and flowers, you have to visit Atlanta Botanical Garden where they're hosting Cocktails In The Garden parties. Seriously, it's such a vibe.
