North Georgia is filled with many hiking trails, ranging from short to over-night walks. If you are a lover of the outdoors and an avid hiker, this 4-mile trail up Sawnee Mountain is for you.
Indian Seats Trail is one of the trails on Sawnee Mountain that will lead you to some incredible views. According to Atlanta Trails, you will get the best views of the North Georgia Mountains on this trail.
Back in the day, this mountain was a mining site in search for gold in the 1800s, and during your hike, you will be able to actually see some of that history.
There is some major uphill walking on this trail, so we are just warning you to wear your best shoes.
About a mile into your journey, you will come up to a gated entrance to what used to be where the miners would go down to the underground mine.
You cannot enter the mine, but it is kind of fun and creepy to look down into the darkness and see what the miners used to do.
After that, you will be on your way to what you all have been waiting for: the mountain's summit.
At about mile 2, you will be at the summit and you probably will not want to leave. The views seem unreal, and if you get up there right as the sun is setting or rising, you are in for an even better treat.
The mountain sits where you have a perfect view of the sun setting, which also makes for great golden hour pictures.
It seems like the scenery is out of a movie, or a book. You can see the tops of the North Georgia Mountains and the valleys below.
You can climb this mountain from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and it is free to visit and hike!
We strongly advise that before you go swimming or visit any location, you check the most recent updates on potential hazards, security, water quality, and closures. If you do plan to visit a location, respect the environment.
