From secret waterfalls to private islands, Georgia is full of amazing hidden treasures. There's something especially exuberating about discovering lesser known adventures, and there are plenty of them here. Whether you're a resident or just visiting, we are here to help you peel back the fantastic layers of The Peach State and explore secret wonders, including a perfect fall adventure at this Medieval-esque Rock Garden in Georgia.
The Rock Garden in Calhoun, Georgia is a small village with over 50 miniscule structures built completely by the hands of volunteers. The structures are made of natural materials including tiny stones, pebbles, shells and ceramic tile, all pieced together to create a Roman-esque miniature community.
You'll feel like you stepped into Narnia or Neverland, but you'll also feel like a fairytale giant because everything is adorably small. You can take a (literal) mini European adventure as you explore the fun-sized models of Notre Dame and the Rome Coliseum. Some of the structures are even big enough to go in and snap a cute pic.
The little village also contains tiny homes, castles and cathedrals. The cathedrals are beautifully embroidered with stained glass, making it a realistic remake of the ones you would find abroad in Europe.
The castles stand tall (in the eyes of Tinkerbell) and their precise detail is almost as awe-striking as a genuine full-sized structure. They even have "residents" to fill the village including 2-inch porcelain figures of people and animals.
Despite the adorable miniature wonderland, there is a real human-sized music pavilion towering the Rock Garden that hosts live music performances.
This hidden gem is definitely unchartered territory in the minds of many Georgians and travelers, so it's definitely something to add to your bucketlist this fall. And it's completely free, including parking.
More hidden treasures in Georgia include campgrounds next to wild horses on Cumberland Island and this short hike that leads you to a creepy graveyard.
