Sometimes, you have to work and suffer a little to see some of the prettiest features Georgia has to offer. This specific hike will lead you to a beautiful crystal clear waterfall that falls into an emerald green pool of water, and the physical effort is so worth it.
Lula Lake and Lula Falls are located near Cloudland State Park and the hike to get there is a 3-mile roundtrip adventure. During your trek, you will come upon some of the coolest features.
Make sure your calves are ready for this hike because a good part of it is uphill, and you will surely feel the burn.
When you begin on your journey, you will start walking through a hardwood forest that will lead you to a stone and wooden bridge to cross to continue on your way.
You will find yourself crossing another bridge right as you get to the falls, and that is when you know you have made it to the first part of the waterfall.
The water that drops down the 20-foot waterfall trickles into a pool that is emerald green and actually pretty clear for Georgia. This is the perfect spot to stop and have lunch or a quick snack.
You will have to walk about 0.3 of a mile to get to the viewing points of Lula Falls, which stands at a tall 120 feet.
Walking all the way down to the bottom of the gorge is the best place to view the falls, according to Atlanta Trails.
They warn that you will get wet since this waterfall is massive and can make rocks slippery, so always be cautious where you are stepping!
Because this area is a preserved spot, the falls and trail are only open the first and last weekends of May through November. On those Saturdays, you can visit from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
There are only 85 spots each day, so be sure to head to their website to get one. There is a $15 fee, but 100% of the proceeds go to conserving the Lula area.
We strongly advise that before you go swimming or visit any location, you check the most recent updates on potential hazards, security, water quality, and closures. If you do plan to visit a location, respect the environment.
