If you are trying to find the perfect place to take your significant other or a few close friends for a summer picnic, we might have found the best place for you. Located 20 miles East of Athens, you will find the longest covered bridge in Georgia, alongside river shoals you can walk through.
Watson Mill Bridge State Park is not just your typical park with hiking trails (even though there are a few). Most people visit here to see the historical bridge and the area underneath.
The Watson Mill Bridge is one of the last twenty covered bridges, but truly is the longest at 229 feet. It is a great place to take pictures or to walk through with the one you fancy most.
There is no hike or trek to get to this area, so if you want to take nice photos, no worries about getting hot and sweaty.
Under the bridge, the South Fork River flows and makes for a great place to cool down and have a cute picnic.
There are many exposed rocks above the water that you can venture out to and get your tan on. Summer's might be hot in Georgia, but there are still places for you to go where you can cool down a bit.
The flowing water will mist you, which you can also get in because the water is not too deep by the bridge. Make sure to get there in the morning. The area opens at 7:00 a.m., so you can get the perfect spot on the rocks.
Either before or after your adventure to the water, you can discover over seven miles of walking trails throughout the property.
If you wanted to make a weekend out of it and discover all of the trails and amenities this destination has, you can stay on the property in your own tent, or you can rent one of the cabins there.
It has 3 log cabins that sleep up to eight people and they run at $170 per night for the entire cabin, so it is a great idea to keep in mind if you have a group of friends that are wanting to adventure with you.
This is a different summer adventure that is great to go on when it is super hot outside because you can jump in the water whenever you want.
