Some people are lucky enough to go see the wonders of the world during their lifetime, but if not, you can find replicas of the wonders around the world right here in the United States. Every state has different attractions that you can see that resemble the Eiffel Tower, Italy architecture, China’s culture and more. Here in Georgia, we have many hidden attractions, but the BAPS Shiri Swaminarayan Mandir is one that you need to visit.
Located in Lilburn, Georgia, right outside of Atlanta, is a massive Hindu Temple that you would never know was there. It is huge, but not many people know about this beautiful place that will make you feel like you are in India.
According to the BAPS website, as they were building the Mandir, they brought in more than 34,000 individual pieces that were crafted by hand in India.
Not to mention, this is a place of peace, so while you look at this architecture and take it all in, you will feel a sense of calming over you, which is something we all need every once in a while.
This is an active Mandir, meaning, people of the Hindu religion come here to worship and participate in religious rituals.
Every visitor that comes to the Mandir is welcomed to participate in the rituals that are going on if they so choose. Make sure you visit their website, here, to find the time worship will be going on.
The best part about visiting this hidden part of Georgia is that it is free to visit and spend time.
For just $5, you can pick up an audio tour guide in the gift shop and you will be on your way to learning about the oldest living faith in history.
The best time to visit is 9:00 a.m. EST to 12:00 p.m. EST and 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., but they are open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Photos are only permitted outside of the Mandir and prohibited inside and leave your personal items in your car! Also, remember to wear clothing that covers your shoulders and knees.
