Even if the temperature doesn't really drop, we Georgians can still expect to see the visual changes of the seasons. From lush greens to warm reds and oranges, the nature of Georgia will soon begin to bring us the shades of autumn. For the outdoorsy babes, this is a great time to find a new hike in Georgia that's perfect to watching the seasons change right in front of you.
We have to be honest, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is not for the faint of heart. The park has over 15 miles of trails, the shortest being 1.35 miles and the longest being 11 miles. However, the best views can be seen by hiking up the mountain, which is a two-mile hike to the top. This hike is considered strenuous and takes about 1.5 hours to get to the top, but we promise, it's worth it.
This mountain can be pretty busy, but the people won't take away from the experience. The hike starts out on the West Trail behind the Visitor Center. About a mile into the hike, the elevation will rise about 800 feet. The path is paved and pretty straightforward so you won't have too much trouble with the walk up, but you should be careful to watch out for outstretched tree roots in your way.
There are no signs pointing which direction to go, but the path naturally curves and well, it'll make sense. Along your path, you'll see signs and nameplates for past commanders and troops who died in war. You'll get a workout and a bit of history along your journey. There are many spots along the hike to sit and catch a breathe too, so it's perfect for your pups to come along and get a workout too!
You'll know you're on the very tippy top when the path begins leveling out. At the top of the mountain you'll be able to stand on the observation platform and look out to Georgia underneath you. The views are truly breathtaking. If you're looking for more hikes then you'll have to check out this list of super easy hikes.
