Now that the cold weather is letting up, it seems like the perfect time for an adventure. There is so much you can do within a few hours from the city. Therefore, you may want to start planning a road trip from Atlanta.
One spot you might want to visit (if you're not claustrophobic) is Tumbling Rock Cave. It's located in Fackler, Alabama, which is only about two and a half hours away from Atlanta.
Since it's so close to town, you can easily visit on a day trip. When you get there, you can actually take a 2.4-mile long hike inside of the cave, which will give you a look at how massive it looks inside.
However, before you decide to visit this amazing natural spot in Alabama, you'll need to get a permit from SCCI. While it is free to obtain a permit, you do have to register at least 48 hours in advance of your trip.
Once you recieve a permit, you'll be sent the exact location of the cave. This keeps things safer for everyone visiting and ensures that the area stays well-maintained for visitors who want to see it in the future.
While this may be a more challenging cave, you don't have to be an expert to explore it. You won't need to bring a ton of gear with you, but you'll definitely want to make sure that you have a flashlight handy.
Once you get about a mile into the cave, you'll get to see Topless Dome. It can be challenging to reach, but once you're there, you will see a nearly 400-foot shaft with a waterfall near the top of the dome.
This area is really impressive, so if you can get there, you shouldn't miss it.
This might just be one of the coolest caving spots near Atlanta, so if you're up for some exploring, it might be someplace that you want to check out.
