Technically summer isn't over until late September and the Georgia heat definitely proves that to be true. Lucky for us, we get to enjoy lengthy summers and get in lots of beach time before cold weather hits. August is the perfect time to escape the heat on a staycation with your crew to one of Georgia's beaches. Tybee Island has surprisingly cheap oceanfront cottages that will have you and your girls feeling like Ariel.

Tybee Island, home to some of Georgia's most notable beaches, has a total land area of a whopping five miles. The tiny coastal community in Savannah is packed with sandy beaches, nautical excursions and adorable shops and accommodations. Among these accommodations lies the Mermaid Cottages. Established in 2004, Mermaid Cottages owns over 50 tiny beach homes for rent and they are too cute for words. The modern, renovated homes are spread all throughout the island, with some on the beach and others no more than half a mile away. Some cottages are new and some are renovated versions of historical homes from the 1900s. Most have amazing ocean views and each one has something unique to offer, like the tiki hut at Canty's Cottage.

Other cottages include the 17th Street Dream Cottage, Coastal Joy and Beach Bubble Bungalow.

No matter which one you stay in, you'll be surrounded by beaches and tropical palm trees, making it hard to believe you haven't left the state to venture to the Caribbean. However, you'll find that many of the cottages have porches with chairs to add that southern charm to your island stay.

The best part is, the cottages are actually super cheap. They range from $150 - $450 per night and accommodate 4 to 10 guests. One of their most mermaid-esque cottages, the Back River Bungalow, sleeps 8 people at only $250 per night (that's only $31 each!) The Bungalow's bright turquoise exterior accompanied by a flamboyant beachy interior is sure to satisfy your mermaid fanta(seas). Another bonus is that the cottages are pet-friendly, so you can bring your pups (or kitties) along for the ride.

Aside from sunny beach days and wine nights in, you can add some extra adventure on your trip to Tybee. You can go kayaking or paddle boarding; take a dolphin tour; visit the historic Tybee Lighthouse; hangout at the Tybee Pier & Pavilion or do some shopping at Seaside Sisters.

The vibrantly fun and equally relaxing combination of quaint cottages and major island vibes is just what you and your squad deserve. Make sure you plan your coastal getaway in advance, because the cottages sell out quickly (and we can see why). You can search availabilty and book your stay online or by phone.

To explore even more hidden beach fun in the state, consider this hidden private island in Georgia for one of your next getaways. If you're a fan of the lake too, you can get your glamping on at this north Georgia lake.
