Spring is finally right around the corner. If that has you dreaming of long days spent in the great outdoors, you're in luck. Those who love being on the water should take advantage of spots that offer canoeing in North Carolina.
One of the most beautiful paddling spots in the state is at Merchants Millpond State Park in Gatesville, North Carolina. Swamp land and forest come together to create a canoeing experience unlike any you've seen before.
When you go out on a boat at this State Park, it will feel like you are paddling through the forest. The roots of many of the trees are submerged underwater, so you can paddle through them and explore a forest in a whole new way.
The trees are absolutely gorgeous, and you'll get a great view of them while you're boating past. Be on the lookout for Spanish moss hanging from the ancient cypress trees.
If you have your own canoe or kayak, you can bring it with you. However, you can also rent canoes from the park. Renting costs $7 per hour or $30 overnight (in addition to $15 for camping).
While the park doesn't have any kayaks for rent, you can find them from other renters in the area, like Adventure Kayak Tours. This place offers kayak rentals for $15 per hour with a minmum of a two-hour rental.
There are plenty of other activities you can do at this park, like fishing, camping and hiking at some of the most beautiful natural spots in North Carolina.
When spring finally arrives, this activity may just have to move to the top of your local travel bucket list.
