Contrary to popular belief, the best time to go hiking and exploring the outdoors is when the weather is cool and the wind is heavy. When you do this in the summer, you might sweat to death. It is prime time to go exploring and one spot to go hiking in North Carolina near waterfalls is this picturesque locale which is one of the most photographed in the state.

Linville Falls is located north of Asheville, North Carolina and is a popular spot that locals and visitors equally love. Not only is it beautiful, but it is a great place to go on a few hikes and get some exercise.

The actual fall is a three-tiered waterfall that has a total height of 150 feet from top to bottom. The bottom tier of the waterfall is a 45-foot drop into a huge pool of water.

There are a few different trails to take to see the actual falls, but the best route in our opinion is the Linville Gorge Trail. This will give you an up-close look of the falls from the very top to the very bottom.

This specific trail is a bit strenuous with the different height elevations throughout your trek, but it is only about a 1.4-mile journey round trip.

This trail will take you through multiple rock cliffs with many stairs which is what makes this route so challenging. You will eventually make it down to the gorge and the bottom of the falls.

There are huge boulders everywhere that you can have a picnic on, or just lounge on for a bit to watch the falls. The current is so swift so swimming is not allowed, but you can dip your feet in with no problem.

This is a great spot to just get away for the day. It is somewhere that you can get a quick workout in and relax for hours.

If you are looking for more of an adventure, you need to head to Grandfather Mountain to experience the Mile High Swinging Bridge that gives you insane views. You can also take a ride on this scenic train ride where you can drink moonshine and admire the fall foilage of North Carolina.
