We all want to get away from the hustle and bustle of life (and reality) every now and then, but we don't want to spend hundreds on a luxurious vacation to do it. Sometimes, the best spots to get away are right in your town, or just a drive up the road. You have to see this hidden park in North Carolina. Travel to N.C to visit a bamboo forest will give you a sense of peace and tranquility.

The Oconaluftee Islands Park is in Cherokee, North Carolina and it's a hidden oasis right in your own backyard. This relaxing park will make you feel like you are on some tropical island while the wind blows through your hair and the sound of the water soothes you.

Whether you are looking to cool off during a hot day or wanting to just get out and explore nature, this is the place you have to go. You'll also have a backdrop of the mountains so that just adds to the greatness.

The river here is shallow enough to wade in and has just enough of a current to tube down. The water is going to be chilly throughout the entire year, so it'll definitely keep you cooled off until the weather decides to act right.

Not to mention, this is an ideal date spot as well to take your significant other. There are tons of picnic tables and nice, open spaces to have a cute, Instagrammable moment.

As you make your way around the park, you'll notice the gigantic bamboo stalks that are too inviting to not walk through. This bamboo forest is so picture perfect that you will find yourself lost in its beauty.

It will make you feel like you have stepped into an Asian forest and are no longer in the U.S. The forest is just large enough to feel secluded from the world, but also small enough not get lost inside, which makes it the perfect place to explore.

There are a few other bamboo forests in the South, including this one in Georgia that is on a popular trail and is free to visit. There's also this park in Florida dedicated to just bamboo
