What's great about New Mexico is that when you've found one gem in the Land of Enchantment, really, you've found several all in one. While many tourists and natives may have heard of the Jemez Mountains, what many don't know is that there are massive rock tunnels carved out of canyon cliffs nearby that you can actually drive through. The Gilman Tunnels are well-worth a detour if you were only planning on taking a hike in the nearby mountains.

The Gilman Tunnels were once part of the Santa Fe Northwestern Railway and now they remain to be explored by those visiting the Jemez Mountains.

With the mountains and the springs nearby being such popular places to explore, you'd think more people would be traveling through these enchanting roadways. However, they're still very much a hidden treasure.

A good indicator that you've arrived at the Gilman Tunnels is the massive hole in the mountains that you or your vehicle can make it through. That, and seeing that you're on Forest Service Road 376.

The tunnels sit below the Guadalupe River box canyon, which is also an incredible sight to be seen. New Mexico really has it all.

When planning your trip, be sure to pack your camera in your bag for some epic pictures along the way.

Stopping once you've reached the tunnels to take some pics isn't uncommon, and will score you some great shots for your Instagram feed.

Oh, and don't forget to hit record once you've approached this enchanting winding road!

Whether you're in the area for the springs, mountains, or just the incredible road trip, these tunnelways will be the cherry on top of your adventure-filled cake.
