Rock Island State Park is one of Tennessee's most visited parks. There is so much to do, but everyone usually goes to just see the huge waterfalls that reside here.
Twin Falls, the massive falls that are well known, are not natural waterfalls, but that's what makes them so great. The falls are constantly going and never stop since it's coming from a dam, unlike a natural waterfall that only flows constantly after it rains. It is pretty much two waterfalls in one.
The unique part about this spot is that it was accidentally created. When Caney Fork River was dammed, the falls were created, which is where the water flows from.
Twin Falls are 80 feet from top to bottom. They are constantly flowing so any time you visit, you are in for a treat. There is a huge pool of water that they crash into at the bottom; there are multiple boulders you can hang out on to view the falls.
If you like to hike and want to get the full experience of the park, there are a few trails you can take ranging from a mile to three miles round trip. There is also a parking lot you can drive to that's right next to the falls so you don't have to hike at all to get a view.
The park is very rugged, so anywhere you hike, you will be climbing over rocks and roots. The closer you get to the falls, the more misted you are going to get, which means the rocks and the stairs you will be climbing on will be slippery, so take precaution!
Spending a nice fall day here should be on your list of things to do this season because this place has it all. You can get a little bit of exercise and see a huge waterfall.
