Getting out of town and heading on an adventure just screams summertime. Exploring spots outside of your own state will bring new adventures - sometimes, they're even free. This trail near Tennessee will lead you to a blue pool and waterfall.
Flat Lick Falls is in Gray Hawk, Kentucky, right by the city of McKee, and is only a 2-hour drive from Knoxville, Tennessee. This hike is only 0.6 miles round trip and leads you to a waterfall that falls into a blue pool.
The hike is easy to moderate so it'll be great for everyone in your group, even your four-legged friend. The trail is paved until you get to the falls as well, so no need to worry about tripping over roots and rocks.
You'll cross a dirt path that leads you to your first overlook of the falls. You can get incredible aerial pictures from here and get your adrenaline pumping for what's to come.
If you want to go to the bottom of the falls (which you will probably want to) you'll have to follow a dirt trail that might get your shoes a little muddy.
You'll walk through different rock formations until you finally make it up close to the falls.
The best time to visit is right after it rains or snows because that is when the waterfall will be producing the most water and look the most picturesque.
You can even get behind the waterfall and just hang out for a fairytale experience as well. The blue water will make your jaw drop and you'll want to hop right in.
The boulders by the water will be slippery, so always take precautions when exploring and adventuring.
