Located in the neighboring state of New Mexico is the Sitting Bull Falls Recreation Area, the place where you can find this magical spot. You can reach the waterfall after an easy hike of less than a mile.
Once you finish the hike, there's a viewpoint from where you can see the stunning falling waters.
The area is located in the Lincoln National Forest, on the border between New Mexico and Texas, and it's open all year round.
Admission is only $5 per vehicle, and the place is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Besides the Sitting Bull waterfall, there are several other simple trails you can hike in the area, so plan a spontaneous day trip and get adventurous.
The recreational area, located around 3 hours away from El Paso, has covered picnic tables and grills, so you can plan to make lunch there, or pack some food to enjoy by the waterfall. They also have bathrooms and drinking water available.
You can perfectly take a dip in the pool that the waterfall forms, just be warned that the water can be quite cold.
According to the Lincoln National Forest website, there is parking available near the waterfall, but some visitors say that spots are limited and usually fill up quickly, especially in summer, so if you plan to visit, try to get there as early as possible.
Visitors also commented that while the walk to get to the waterfall is simple, the one that takes you to the source of the waterfall is quite steep, so young children should refrain or receive supervision all the time.
