It's only February and sadly that means spooky season is still pretty far away. However, just because we're not in October yet doesn't mean we have to wait until then to get a good scare. A haunted hotel near Houston is the perfect place to go exploring and inevitably encounter the paranormal.

The Tremont House is one of the spookiest places you can spend the night at in Galveston, a historically haunted island near Houston.

Like much of the island, the hotel has a storied past and a  pretty dark one at that. The building's history dates all the way back to 1839, the year the city was founded.

The current edifice is the hotel's third incarnation since the first building was demolished in a fire, and the second was destroyed in the Great Galveston Hurricane of 1900.

Obviously, this isn't where the tragic history ends as there are a few apparitions that are said to be residents of the hotel to this very day.

Four ghosts are regularly cited as the main sightings people spot, and two of them even have names.

There's a Civil War soldier who likes to hang around the first-floor bar; Sam, who was murdered on the fourth floor; a storm victim who likes to mess with people; and a young boy named "Jimmy."

If you're feeling brave and really want to up your chances of a paranormal encounter, we recommend requesting a room on the fourth floor.

The fourth floor is rumored to be their most haunted spot and is where a lot of the different spooky activity takes place.

For those who maybe aren't quite ready to spend the night in a haunted hotel room, browsing the hallways is always an option. The east side is especially eerie.

Spending the night at this regal hotel is actually pretty affordable! Rates for rooms vary but generally tend to start at around $150.

The Tremont has standard queen-sized rooms all the way to king-sized suites.

If you're looking for even more things to do around the hotel, you're in luck.

The first-floor bar is one of the more active haunting grounds and is a great place to grab a drink and ghost hunt at the same time.

Aside from trying to find some apparitions, there's plenty to do at the hotel, like heading on up to the rooftop bar to soak in the awesome views of the enchanting, historic island!
