Like much of the island, the hotel has a storied past and a pretty dark one at that. The building's history dates all the way back to 1839, the year the city was founded.
The current edifice is the hotel's third incarnation since the first building was demolished in a fire, and the second was destroyed in the Great Galveston Hurricane of 1900.
Obviously, this isn't where the tragic history ends as there are a few apparitions that are said to be residents of the hotel to this very day.
Four ghosts are regularly cited as the main sightings people spot, and two of them even have names.
There's a Civil War soldier who likes to hang around the first-floor bar; Sam, who was murdered on the fourth floor; a storm victim who likes to mess with people; and a young boy named "Jimmy."
