When it comes to hiking, we love places that give us amazing views because it makes the hike bearable. Right? So we did a bit searching for one with some of the best views North Texas has to offer. If you're able to venture out to the Amarillo area, Rock Garden Trail is one of the best trails in Palo Duro and it's not hard to see why.
The trail is about five miles long and has amazing views of the mountains and scenery you can only find there. The trail gets its name because there are tons of wildflowers around that you can enjoy on your way up. The spectacular view is there year-round and the park's entrance fee costs only $8.
You might want to pack extra water because the hike doesn't have that much shade so it tends to get a little hot. But don't complain because the open air allows you to see so much of the view as you hike. Most people take about three to four hours to make the round trip on the trail, and it's also dog-friendly! Be sure to keep your pup on a leash though and pack extra water for the little guy.
Rock Garden Trail is located in Palo Duro State Park, at 11450 Park Road 5, Canyon, Texas 79015. It's not too far from Amarillo if you happen to be a local there, or just traveling in that direction. It is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, and you can check the park's official website for more information.
