Want to go to France? If all goes well, you'll be able to skip the plane embark on the road trip of your life to the land of romance.
Later this year, the French territory of St-Pierre-Miquelon plans to start two ferry services to Fortune, Newfoundland which is just 42 kilometres away. The ferries will be able to carry up to 15 cars year-round, allowing adventurous travellers to cross the seas with their vehicles.
St-Pierre-Miquelon is the last colonial piece of New France in North America, just off the south coast of Newfoundland.
The ferry services were supposed to launch this May 15, however the port authority in Fortune is not yet financially ready to upgrade its wharf. Charles Penwell, the mayor of Fortune, says there will be a temporary solution in place until the wharf is ready.
