In a way, true-crime series are like reality TV; interviews with real people, footage from the real cream scene and court dates, except true-crime adds something even extra. Mystery.
Remember when the world was obsessed with Making a Murderer? Everyone you knew at some point binge-watched the groundbreaking series. Now in 2019, there's a whole bunch of other shows just like Making a Murderer on Netflix. There are even some shows that run more like fictionalized series based on real-life crime if documentaries aren't your thing.

In documentary style, this true-crime series follows the death of Kathleen Peterson in 2001 at her family home. From it's ruling as accidental to her husband Mike becoming a prime subject, this documentary unfolds the mystery behind her death.
Making a Murderer

Making a Murderer is probably one of the most-watched true-crime documentaries ever. It follows the story of the arrested and falsely charged Steven Avery. He served 18 years in a Wisconsin prison after he was convicted of sexual assault and attempted murder. Now investigators are at work to reveal what really happened.
The Keepers

The Keepers is a 7 episode Netflix exclusive that was originally a web series. It tries to solve the unsolved murder of Sister Cathy Cesnik who was accused of covering up sexual assault cases being carried out by the priest at the school she worked at.
Wild Wild Country
Rating: 98% on Rotten Tomatoes
This series follows controversial Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. He rose to fame as a cult leader in the 1980s promoting anti-socialism and orthodox religion. He was known for his leniency when it came to rules involving sexuality and relationships, driving people in until he was eventually considered a Hitler-loving God. The documentary shows the cults uprising that involved guns and bio attacks.
Evil Genious
Rating: 80% on Rotten Tomatoes
Evil Genius encapsulated America's most well-known and biggest bank robbery ever. The documentary follows the murder of Brian Wells after he's sent as a hostage to rob a bank with an explosive device around his neck.
Mindhunter

Although Mindhunter isn't presented as a documentary each episode deals with true crime. It follows the life and career of John Douglas and Mark Olshaker who set out to create a profile and eventually capture the world's most dangerous serial killers and rapists.
Unbelievable

Unbelievable, like Mindhunter, isn't presented in a documentary form. Unbelievable is a fictionalized world where police investigate the real-life happenings of a serial rapist with targets all across America.
The Confession Tapes

The Confession Tapes examines different crime cases in each episode. From cases of wrongfully convicted murder to manipulated cases. This documentary series interviews investigators, lawyers, and family and friends in order to sort through all known information.
