Every year, manatees migrate to Tampa in search of warm water. But sometimes even the bay gets a little chilly! When local waters experience a drop in temperature, the adorable manatees seek refuge near the Tampa Electric (TECO) Big Bend Power Station in Apollo Beach, where the discharge canal is filled with clean water that is statistically warmer than other neighboring areas. TECO has sponsored an official Manatee Viewing Center that is open to the public so that everyone can catch a sighting of the affectionally termed "sea potatoes". Take advantage of this local attraction and visit the center for a manatee sighting that is sure to make you say, "Awww!!!"
