13 Boston Women With Badass Jobs
She believed she could, so she did.
The women in this city never cease to amaze me. Artists, business-owners, creators, dreamers, doers; these women know what they want and aren't afraid to do exactly whatever that may be.
These women are grabbing their industry by the reigns, proving that it certainly isn't a "man's world" anymore. So, if you're in need of a little inspo to keep you truckin' along your career path, a little nudge to set you off in a completely different direction, or just want to admire a few badass ladies who have some pretty awesome jobs...here you go.
Sophie Hughes // Jewelry Designer, Owner of Ore
After graduating from Massachusetts College of Art in 2008, Hughes was quick to turn her passion into a career as she founded her very own sustainable jewelry line in 2010, followed by the opening of her Boston boutique, Ore, in 2013. The boutique features work by local female designers. Talk about #girlpower.
Julia Scaparotti // NHL Cheerleader, TV Host, Advertising Guru, Miss MA 2017
Is there anything this woman doesn't do? Assistant Digital Media Planner in the Media Hub division of Mullen Lowe (advertising agency); TV host of NESN's entertainment news show, Dirty Water TV; Cheerleader for The New England Patriots and current Miss Massachusetts - this is one busy beauty.
Nikki (DJ Nixx) // DJ
If deejaying alongside Lil Jon and Ciara, isn't badass enough to get you on this list, I don't know what is. Oh...maybe the fact that she was recently picked for "Best of The Knot 2016."
Alexandra Ryan // Styling Director at Rue La La
She oversees the styling direction for one of the hottest (and elite - members only) online stores on the WWW. Can you say, jealous? But Alexandra didn't just snap her fingers to get this position, she worked hard for it, starting off with her own fashion consulting firm to learn the ins and outs of the biz.
Eliza Shirazi // Creator of Kick It By Eliza
With a love of dance, music, community and fitness, Eliza fused her passions together to create a female empire (AKA FEMPIRE™) around her Kick It fitness method. Inspired by kickboxing, Eliza leads and instructs one hell of a workout while simultaneously empowering the women around her to be their best selves. Amazing.
Savath // Makeup Artist, Full Time Blogger
This Cambodian American makeup artist capitalized on her background in journalism and public relations to develop a blog (City Style Scene) that has become so successful, it is now her full-time job. Covering all things lifestyle, Savath spends her days concocting beauty tutorials, constructing OOTDs, and traveling the world. Not a bad gig.
Ellen Fitzgerald and Laura Baldini // Co-Owners of Mother Juice
The mission was simple; to provide Boston with local, seasonal, and organic produce to make fresh juices, smoothies, and other tasty treats. The results? Brilliant. What started as Boston's first juice and smoothie truck, Mother Juice founders Ellen Fitzgerald and Laura Baldini now have three successful brick and mortar locations throughout the city.
Ruby Rose Fox // Musician
This vocal powerhouse, makes her living off that edgy, soulful voice that has earned her praise as “Female Performer of the Year,” by the 2016 New England Music Awards. Impressive.
Jennifer Hanway // Nutrition Coach
Need a little help finding that healthy lifestyle balance? Jennifer Hanway is your girl. A Holistic Nutrition Coach and personal trainer with an impressive background (ummmm she was personal trainer to the British Royal family), I'd say this chick is pretty damn good at her job.
Holly Nichols // Fashion Illustrator
Napkins filled with doodles and notebooks decked with sketches quickly caught the attention of the fashion community. Her work is now sold internationally and she lends her incredible illustration talent to many corporate clients (think Saks Fifth Avenue, Barney's New York, Neiman Marcus).
Elize Nazelie // Tattoo Artist
What's more badass than a tattoo artist? A female tattoo artist who owns her own shop. Specializing in botanical pieces and animal scenes, Elize's intricate work is truly stunning.
Dani McDonald // Co-Founder and Stylist at Flock Boutique
Founded in 2009 by mother-daughter team, Dani McDonald and Lisa Kupsc; Flock gives Boston a trendy bohemian boutique with a West Coast vibe. This adorable socialite has been named one of Bostonians most stylish people, and for good reason...I mean it is her job after all.
