Yes, Christmas is like, tomorrow. But don't worry, you've still got time to sneak in some holiday shopping and get into that festive spirit (and into those festive spirits...bring on the Peppermint Schnapps!).
Throughout the next month, there are a few holiday events in Boston you do not want to miss out on. Whether you're in the market for last minute Christmas gifts, or you just love being surrounded by that "holiday cheer," these are the top 11 markets and events in Boston to hit up this season.
Where: Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Marketplace Center, 4 South Market Building
When: November 20 - January 1 // Daily on the hour, starting at 4:30pm - 9:30pm
If you dare brave the crowds of Faneuil hall this holiday season, you'll be rewarded with one of the most unforgettable light shows you've ever seen. With over 350,000 LED lights illuminating the area (in beat to the Holiday Pops, might I add), the jam-packed shopping venue is a bit more manageable. Plus, Faneuil Hall Marketplace is home to the largest Christmas tree in New England.
Where: Boston Common, 167 Tremont St
When: December 1 // Thursday 5 – 8pm
Arrive around 5 to check out the talent-ridden ice show at Frog Pond until 6pm. The tree lighting will follow, overseen by Mayor Marty Walsh. Be sure to stay through to the end of the ceremony for the epic pyrotechnic display by Atlas Pro.
Where: Seaport Common, 85 Northern Avenue
When: December 2 // 6 - 8pm
2016 marks the first year for the Seaport District's tree lighting event...and I'm thinking the premiere won't disappoint. Apart from the lights, expect live music from Andrew Smith, holiday treats and giveaways.
Where: The North End
When: December 2 // 6 - 11pm
Make your way through the streets of the North End on December 2nd to take advantage of one night of special promotions, late hours and tasty treats. Participating neighborhood stores will keep their trendy boutique doors open for holiday shoppers until 11pm...so basically, no excuse not to go.
Where: SoWa Power Station, 540 Harrison Ave
When: December 2-4 // Fri 5 – 9pm, Sat 11am – 5pm, Sun 11am – 5pm
This year, SoWa is amping up their annual Winter festival with over 100 artisan and food vendors...AKA the biggest winter shopping village to grace Boston...ever. An array of Christmas goodies, the SoWa market will be transformed to meet all your holiday needs. Oh and P.S., there will be FREE wine.
Where: Salem Common Neighborhood (Tickets will be sold day of, at the Hawthorne Hotel)
When: December 2 - 4 // Fri 5:30 - 8:30om, Sat 10:30am - 4:30pm, Sun 11:30am - 4:30pm
If you feel like taking a little road trip out of Boston (relax, it's only 30 minutes away), head to Salem. Typically known for its Halloween festivities, Salem actually has a lot to offer throughout the rest of the holiday season as well. Gorgeous homes completely decked out in Christmas flair, walking tours, tons of shopping, and wine tastings - this historic town is worth the car ride.
Where: Hynes Convention Center, 900 Boylston St
When: December 2 - 4 // Fri 10am - 6pm, Sat 10am - 6pm, Sun 11am - 5pm
Any and all craft enthusiasts will be in their glory at the CraftBoston Holiday Show. If you're on the hunt for a guaranteed one-of-a-kind gift, definitely plan for a day exploring this holiday market.
Where: Innovation and Design Center in South Boston, 1 Design Center Pl
When: December 3 - 4 // TBD
Another opportunity to get a head start on holiday shopping, the South Boston Holiday Market will provide ample options for unique gifts and, I'm assuming, some delectable treats to help you pack on the holiday pounds...'tis the season #amiright?
Where: Lir Tavern, 903 Boylston
When: December 10 // Doors open at 10am
Okay, so this one has nothing to do with holiday shopping, or sipping on hot cocoa, or trees bedazzled with magical lights. In fact, this one might actually be a little sore on the eyes...depending on where you look. Either way, the Santa Speedo Run is a Boston holiday event worth mentioning. Even if you don't plan on running in the...interesting...event, consider doing some shopping along Boylston to witness around 700 ho ho hoes (joking!).
Where: Game On Fenway, 82 Lansdowne St
When: December 10 // 12 - 10pm
Again, not necessarily shopping related (unless of course, you're shopping for a one night stand), SantaCon Boston is one of the top Boston holiday events of the season. Throw on your best Santa suit and join over 2,000 other costumed men and women on a bar crawl like no other.
Where: Fort Point
When: December 16 // 4 - 8pm
One of the most historic neighborhoods in Boston, this holiday stroll will definitely put you in that warm, nostalgic, festive mood. Tons of boutiques, pop-up shops, goodies and more; for those who like to cut it close with their holiday shopping, this is a last-minute event to check out.
