When the cold sweeps over Boston, it gets a little bit harder to come up with entertaining date ideas that don't revolve around a couch, hot chocolate, and the movie, Elf. Don't get me wrong, I would happily spend each and every one of my "date nights" cozied up with my S.O. watching Christmas flick after Christmas flick...but sometimes it's nice to get out of the house (I guess).
If you're itching for some (shockingly) fresh air, and you dare brave the cold, here are 9 places in Boston that make for a perfect date night in (or around) Boston during the holidays.
Frog Pond // 38 Beacon St
Lace up those skates (yes, they have rentals), grab each other's hand and try not to fall. Spend an hour or so practicing your triple axels and chassés...or just staying on your two feet...and you'll work up quite the appetite. End this holiday date at a nearby cafe with a mug of something warm and delicious and a couple of pastries.
When: Monday 10am - 3:45pm, Tuesday to Thursday & Sunday 1oam - 9pm, Friday & Sat 10am - 10pm
Faneuil Hall // 4 South Market Building
Take a nighttime stroll through Faneuil Hall during the holidays, after the sun has set, and admire the glistening light display that goes off every hour, starting at 4:30pm. Get a couple of festively flavored lattes to keep you warm and just spend an afternoon of people watching in the tourist-ridden area. Don't forget to check out the decked out Christmas tree in the Marketplace Center (photo op).
When: Daily 4:30, 5:30, 6:30, 7:30, 8:30, 9:30pm
Top of the Hub // 800 Boylston St
The epitome of date night? Dinner with a view. And that is exactly what you'll get if you choose to dine with your hunny at the Top of the Hub. If possible, shoot for a night post-snow - there's nothing like eating an unbelievable meal while gazing over a winter wonderland.
Bright Nights at Forest Park // 300 Sumner Avenue, Springfield
Speaking of a winter wonderland, head to the Northeast's premier holiday lighting experience featuring over 650,000 lights along a three mile tour. Pure magic.
(Yes, I know this isn't IN Boston). But if you and your SO are close enough to last a 1.5 hour car ride - this date idea is totally worth it.
When: November – January 1, Sunday - Thursday 5 - 9pm, Friday & Saturday 5 - 11pm
Cuppacoffee // 1 Merrimac St
What's more festive and romantic than keeping each other warm on a chilly Boston day during a sugary-sweet tour of the best hot chocolate destinations the city has to offer? Thanks to the historic nature of the city, you'll soak in a few hours of gorgeous architecture, beautiful cityscape, all while sipping on the quintessential drink of the holidays.
When: Saturdays at 11:30
Holiday Cruise // Boston Harbor
Whether it's just you and bae, or you and your whole gang, spend some time on the Boston Harbor for a truly enchanting time. Glide along the icy waters and indulge in a holiday buffet, themed music and festive décor. Mark your calendars for the Ugly Sweater Cocktail Cruise on the 15th.
When: Dates and times vary (check website for details)
Symphony Hall // 301 Massachusetts Ave
Seeing the Boston Pops is something every Bostonian couple needs to do at least once...so might as well do so during the orchestra's insane holiday show. Get a little fancy and treat yourselves to a classy night of mind-blowingly talented music while toast to your love with tall glasses of bubbly.
When: Friday 12/9 at 8pm, Saturday 12/10 at 7:30pm, Saturday 12/17 at 11am, 3pm, 7:30pm, Thursday 12/22 at 8pm, Friday 12/23 at 8pm, Saturday 12/24 at 11am, 3pm
Boston Opera House // 19 Clarendon Street
If you prefer a more visual experience, check out the infamous Boston Ballet rendition of the Nutcracker. Even if ballet isn't necessarily your "thing," this performance is one of Boston's most treasured holiday events...and yet another excuse to dress up and #treatyoself.
When: November 21 - December 31, times vary
TD Garden // 100 Legends Way
Bring a little excitement into date night and get tickets to the Garden to cheer on the Bs. Wear matching Bruins gear (hello Instagram), grab a couple tall beers, split a plate of nachos and try not to lose your voices.
