A snow coaster? Yes, a snow coaster...as in a roller coaster that takes you on an exhilarating ride through wintery forests and snow-capped mountains. Sounds pretty sweet, right? Well, the Berkshire East Mountain Resort in Charlemont (just a mere 2 and a half hour drive from Boston - worth it) offers cold-lovin' adventurists the opportunity to jump aboard said coaster. In fact, it just so happens to be the longest snow coaster in North America.
The Thunderbolt, as the coaster is named, takes riders up 1,580 feet through the woods before, clink: cart disengages and gravity takes over. Then, riders zip down 3,870 feet of downhill track; fully loaded with thrilling drops and turns. But don't worry, if things get a little too intense (you big baby), each cart has its own breaking system so you can slow down to a speed that makes you more comfortable.
AND, the snow coaster isn't the only thing luring people to the Berkshire East Mountain resort this winter. The park features 42 ski trails so make sure to grab your snowboards and book a room at one of the resort's two lodges to make a full weekend out of your trip.
If you want to check the Thunderbolt off your bucket list this winter, be sure to get to the mountain between 11am – 4pm on Saturday and Sundays when the attraction is open (weather permitting). The Berkshire East Mountain Resort website offers more info on pricing and amenities.
