About 30 miles west of Austin lies one of the greatest hidden gems in Texas, the Hamilton Pool Preserve. An incredible 50-foot waterfall, stunning natural pool, flourishing Texan greenery, and shimmering beach are hidden beyond the walls of a limestone cliff. This Texas nature preserve is officially reopening for its 2019 season on March 1st.
The Hamilton Pool Preserve is the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway that's not too far from home. The journey to the protected land makes one feel like they're escaping to a tropical paradise. This hidden spot is definitely a place you have to see for yourself.
Reservations are required for entry into the nature park, so don't forget to sign up before you make the trek. Once at the park, guests need to make a quarter mile hike across an uneven, rocky path before they arrive at the pool. Dogs are prohibited at all times and you can't leave any trash behind when you leave.
Travis County Parks has approved of swimming in the natural, untouched pool for the start of the season so pack your swimsuit. But be warned, the water is freezing cold year round! Don't let that stop you, though, since the cold water is definitely worth it for the incredible views.
Guests can maneuver across a rocky path through the grotto to approach the 50-foot waterfall, or one can simply swim across the pool to reach it. Standing under the powerful spray of the waterfall is exciting and always encouraged.
Make time this season to visit the Hamilton Pool Preserve (24300 Hamilton Pool Rd, Dripping Springs) and be amazed for yourself. The protected nature preserve is one of the best hidden wonders of Texas. Don't forget to make a reservation and save your spot ASAP! You will need to pay an $11 fee at registration. Entrance to the preserve is $15 per vehicle, cash only.
