12 Awesome Free Things You Can Do In Vancouver This July

June is coming to an end, and with the recent nice weather signaling what should be an amazing July, we have a lot to look forward to. Summer in Vancouver offers near endless opportunities, so to thin out the list to keep you from getting too overwhelmed, there are several FREE events and activities that'll promise to be just as fun as anything costly.

July is an incredible time to be in Vancouver so make the most of it this summer by checking out a few of these awesome festivities:

1. Gallery Row

The South Granville Art Galleries offer an amazing taste of diverse cultures as you stroll the streets, jumping from gallery to gallery. The Vancouver Art Gallery is also free on Tuesday after 5 pm.

2. Khatsahlano Street Party

Vancouver's largest free music and arts festival is at it again. Taking places on July 9 from 11 am to 9 pm, join in the celebration as more than 50 musical performers play their tunes as you dance your way through the 10-block street fair. There are giveaways, endless food options and licensed beer gardens, ensuring an incredible day of partying.

3. Summer Outdoor Cinema

Every Tuesday night, starting July 5, head to Stanley Park to watch some of the best movies while sitting on grass in the fresh night air. The movies start at dusk at Second Beach. Bring some snacks and a fluffy lawn blanket to kick back in style while you watch the flick.

4. GMS Observatory

On Saturdays, 8 pm to midnight, you can check out the night sky with a high powered telescope. It's free entry, but donations are accepted. With the city lights often hindering the beauty above, this really is a fantastic way to go stargazing.

5. Celebration of Light

Over English Bay, promptly at 10 pm each night, an impressive firework competition presented by Honda takes place. July 23rd will be the Netherlands, July 27th will be Australia and July 30 will be the USA. Head to the beach for an impressive show.

6. Symphony in the Park

On the Deer Lake Park Festival Lawn on July 10th from 7pm-9pm, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will be performing their annual free outdoor concert. They will play a mix of light classics and popular favourites, and of course – free admission.

7. Beach Volleyball

On a hot and sunny day many of the beaches around Vancouver have volleyball nets set up. Beach volleyball is great way to work on that tan while being active. Gather up a small group of friends and go to Kits Beach for an afternoon of volleyball and cool off every once in awhile in the refreshing sea.

8. Windsurfing Race

On July 9 from 10:30 am to 4 pm, hang out on Jericho Beach and watch as windsurfers zip by. Presented by UBC Sailing Club, you can also register to race if you know how to windsurf.

9. Vancouver Pride Parade

As the big finale to pride week, the parade marches through downtown on July 31 and will surely be a blast. Prepare to be amazed with decadent costumes and unbridled charm and energy. Drink, eat, and celebrate Vancouver individuality while appreciating a dramatic display of culture.

10. Carnaval del Sol

At Concord Pacific Place on July 9 and 10, the largest Latin festival in the Pacific Northwest will be blowing up. Enjoy live music, art, dance, sports and so much more. The Latin American vibes and decoration transform the plaza into an incredible venue free of charge. Another great way to experience Vancouver's international culture.

11. Canada Day Parade and Waterfront Party

On July 1, show your Canadian pride at a free all-day party at Canada Place. There'll be food, shows and activities leading up to the massive parade which will commence at 7 pm.

12. Canada Day Fireworks

Later in the evening from 10:30pm to 11pm watch as the night sky explodes with colourful lights over Coal Harbour. Find a spot on the seawall for the perfect view!
