Evo Is Adding 250 New Vehicles In Vancouver Now That Car2Go Is Out Of The Picture

Evo is seriously stepping its game up in Vancity!
Evo Vancouver Will Add 250 Cars Now That Car2Go Is Out Of The Picture

With Car2Go announcing their retirement from the streets of Vancouver, Evo has decided to add hundreds of new cars to its fleet. According to the car-share company, Evo Vancouver will add 250 cars to its already extensive collection of vehicles in the city. These vehicles will begin rolling out in the coming months.

Earlier this year, Car2Go announced on its website that it would be ending its car-share services in Vancouver on February 29, 2020.

The statement on their website claims that their decision to exit their North American locations was based on “two extremely complicated realities.”

The first was the “volatile state of the global mobility landscape” and the second was “the rising infrastructure complexities facing North American transportation today.”

In addition to exiting its many North American outlets like Vancouver, the company is also discontinuing operations in Brussels, London, and Florence.

Luckily, Evo will remain and it's about to have an even larger presence in Vancity.

On Wednesday, Evo announced on its Facebook page that it would be adding an additional 250 new vehicles to the roads by the spring with more coming in time for summer.

Not only will the company be adding more cars, but it also plans on improving the app experience in the next several weeks by fixing existing glitches that have been brought to its attention.

“Big shout out to all our Members for the ongoing love, we’re so glad we’re on this journey together,” reads a Facebook post.

Evo is a simple car-sharing app that operates in Vancouver and many other cities globally.

It's different than Uber or Lyft as it works through a customer finding and unlocking a car which they will drive themselves using the app.

With Evo, you don’t need to return the car to the same spot as before. All you need to do is leave it in any approved parking space within the app's “home zone” and you’re officially done.

Many of the cars even have bike and snowboard racks so you can take them on your adventures.

Seeing as it can cost you about $50,000 to own a parking spot in Vancouver, it makes sense to ditch the car and use a car-share.

Every Evo car on the road is a Toyota Prius Hybrid. The company chose this car because of how easy it's to drive and its positive environmental impact, says its website.

With Car2Go’s exit, around 1,200 vehicles will be pulled from the city's roads.

While Evo has a much smaller fleet, it's acknowledging the demand and attempting to remedy what is being lost.

But it's not the only option for Vancouverites — Uber and Lyft are now operating in the city as well.
