We'd call something as small as winning a free play on a lottery ticket exciting. But can you imagine winning $500,000? That’s what happened to a lottery winner in Delta. Oddly enough, at the time she found out she won big, her husband was bragging about his $10 win. Chump change.
Even if we only win a free play or $5, it's a big deal.
During a Daily Grand draw on Monday, April 20, Delta resident Jolene Keith had just moved into her new home with her husband.
The couple both played the lottery and little did they know, they both won. But one of them received a little more cash than the other.
Keith’s husband was the first to find out he won. After checking his numbers, he discovered that he was officially $10 richer.
He was so proud of this accomplishment that he was actually bragging about it to his wife over text message.
That same Tuesday, Keith decided to take a break from her at-home work to check her ticket.
After checking, she released that she matched all five numbers making her the winner of the Daily Grand jackpot.
She took a screenshot of the winning and sent it back to her husband saying “I think I have you beat.”
“I couldn’t believe it right away,” said Keith, according to a press release sent to Narcity.
“I had to put my phone down for a few minutes because I was shaking for a few minutes and it didn’t seem real.”
She opted to take the lump sum prize of $500,000 over the $25,000 a year for life.
The new lotto winner bought her ticket through PlayNow.com. She has been playing this way for the last four years.
Keith finds the online lotto to be more convenient as it guarantees that she will ever lose a ticket or "have the dog eat it."
Daily Grand is a Canada-wide lottery draw that picks numbers on Mondays and Thursdays.
The top prize is always $1,000 a day for life.
If you want to follow in Keith's footsteps, you can purchase the tickets online. Maybe it will be luckier that way.
The next draw will be held on Thursday, April 30. Good luck.
