If you've ever walked down the streets of Paris, you'd know the familiar scent of a boulangerie down the street - wafts of melting butter and sugar, and the sweet songs of someone biting into a crisp croissant. Even if you haven't been to Paris, I'm sure you've watched enough movies and read enough books to fantasize about a classic Parisian bakery.

While it isn't feasible to buy a thousand dollar plane ticket to Paris just to bite into one of those French croissants, it's quite reasonable to take a short Skytrain ride or even walk to this hidden gem bakery just on the outskirts of Gastown.

Located on the far east end of Powell Street is a hidden gem French bakery called Cadeaux Bakery. Owned by their Executive Chef, Eleanor Chow Waterfall, this bakery is baking and icing deliciously sweet desserts of all kinds daily. From their butter croissants and pain au chocolat to their dainty petit fours and award-winning Paris brest, Cadeaux Bakery will have you drooling from when you walk through their doors until you leave.

Eleanor is not only the Executive Chef at Cadeaux, but she has also been the executive pastry chef for many renowned local restaurants such as Lumiere, Blue Water Cafe + Raw Bar, as well as Chambar, all of which I'm sure you're more than familiar with.

Their baked goods are made with all natural, locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, and of course a lot of tender love and care. From the lemon meringue tarts to the double baked almond croissants, Cadeaux's pastry chefs have made them with you in mind - to give you comfort and warmth with each bite.

Aside from the fact that Cadeaux's pastries and baked goods are absolutely to die for, their space is just as inviting as their snacks. The seating area is the perfect mixture of fancy, chic, and simple with a pinch of Parisian flair.

The arabesque design on the walls is definitely reminiscent of Matisse or Bonnard paintings. Along with the pristine white display case that boasts shining croissants and glassy fruit tarts will definitely make you feel as if you were on Rue de Bac in Paris.
