What's Open And Closed On Canada Day In Vancouver

The long weekend is almost here and I know you are just as excited about that extra day off as I am. My plans include drinking Hey Ya'll's all day at Third Beach so its a good thing I stocked up ahead of time because of course, the BCL is CLOSED. Don't worry though, all the private liquor stores are open, along with some other essentials.

To help get you prepared for the long weekend, I've put together this list of a few things that are open and closed this Canada Day:

What's closed:

  • Banks
  • Libraries
  • Government offices
  • BCL
  • Post offices
  • Schools

Whats open:

  • Most grocery stores
  • Private liquor stores
  • Pharmacies
  • Pacific Center Mall - Open until 6pm
  • Metrotown - Open until 7pm
  • Movie theatres

Best places to see the fireworks:

  • Harbour Green Park
  • Coal Harbour
  • Stanley Park - near the 9 o’clock gun
  • Along the seawall in between Ambleside and Dundarave, West Vancouver
  • Lower Lonsdale area, North Vancouver

A recent trip gone awry by a group of 30 paddleboarders in Vancouver is a great reminder to always double-check the weather before leaving land.

Pearson & YVR Are U-Turning On Their Decision To Separate Passengers By Vaccination Status

The reversal was made just a few days after their decision went public.

After their initial decision made headlines across Canada, Toronto Pearson International Airport and Vancouver International Airport have said that they will not have different lines for fully vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers.

Beverly MacDonald, a spokesperson for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, told Narcity that Toronto Pearson has come to the conclusion that separating vaccinated and non/partially-vaccinated travellers in different lines has a minimal effect on operational efficiency.
