Canada is known for having some dangerous roads, whether its the chaos of downtown city driving, Ontario's jam-packed Highway 401, or the winding roads through places like Newfoundland.
One driver learned this the hard way. A terrifying video posted on Facebook shows the moment a driver in Newfoundland veered off the road, hit a pole, and proceeded to flip their car multiple times.
The crazy crash happens as the driver rounds a sharp curve, going at a pretty fast speed. The impact of hitting the post sends the car end over end before it eventually lands on its roof.
Fortunately, despite the intensity of the crash, no other cars were involved. Both the driver and the passenger were able to walk away from the car, though they later were taken to the hospital.
Why would someone need to come around a curve that fast? Well, it was all part of road race called Targa Newfoundland. The annual event invites amateur racers from around the world to compete on the winding roads of Newfoundland.
The race covers over 1,500 kilometres of the island and spans over multiple days. The drivers who flipped their car were less than a day into the race when the accident occurred, as Targa 2018 only started yesterday.
After getting their injuries taken care of in the hospital, both drivers have been confirmed to be uninjured and hope to return to the race today. The race concludes in St. John's, Newfoundland on September 21.
