Work is scarce right now. Plenty of Canadians are looking for a way to make some extra income if they have lost their employment. Luckily, Walmart Canada is still hiring across the country.
In a May 5 Facebook post, the company wrote that it is "hiring for all hourly roles."
On Walmart's job application website, there are currently postings for positions in all provinces.
These include associate, cashier, and manager roles, as well as loss prevention. Full and part-time positions are available.
Major cities where jobs are available include Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax, Calgary, and Edmonton.
While many of the jobs involve working in the store during opening hours, there are also positions, such as dairy/frozen food associate where employees are required to work the night shift.
Careers in loss prevention also require specific licensing, as well as a clean police record.
Many of these jobs have physical requirements, such as standing and walking for long periods of time.
Walmart Canada has also stated in each of its job postings that it can make reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities if they are looking for employment opportunities.
Walmart has stayed open during the pandemic, and in March announced they would be hiring 10,000 new associates.
The company has also instituted guidelines and safety measures in its stores to ensure that customers and employees are safely social distancing.
Other companies, including Dollarama, have also been hiring new employees during this time to help cover demand.
Sobeys even offered jobs specifically to those who might have lost their employment at Cineplex during theatre closures.
Walmart has also followed the lead of stores like Shoppers Drug Mart in offering dedicated opening hours exclusively for seniors to shop.
Those who have lost their job and cannot find work can receive the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, which provides $2000 a month.
