Justin Trudeau has made the biggest indication yet that the Canada-U.S. border is finally opening up in the near future.

In a Thursday night press release, the prime minister revealed that "we could expect to start allowing" fully-vaccinated American citizens and permanent residents to travel to Canada for non-essential reasons by mid-August.

When it comes to the Canada-U.S. border reopening, people in three provinces are particularly keen on it happening "immediately" and they want it more than anywhere else in the country.

According to a new poll by Nanos Research, when asked when Canada should eliminate all pandemic-related restrictions on travel across the Canada-U.S. border, 27.9% of respondents in the Prairies — Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba — said travel restrictions between the two countries should be lifted right away.

When it comes to travel rules in Canada and who can come into the country, Justin Trudeau just revealed that it will be "quite a while" before unvaccinated tourists will be allowed to travel here.

While speaking in B.C. on July 8, the prime minister said his government will continue to reopen "safely and rapidly" but unvaccinated tourists won't be allowed into Canada any time soon so that the progress the country has made won't be jeopardized.
